The VSHC Guide to Bedford. Part 1: Top 5 Places to Eat
The Vintage Suit Hire Company is proud to welcome visitors from all over the country owing to the unique nature of what we do. As purveyors of our worsted wool suits for hire or purchase, our shop is perfectly located in the heart of our home town, Bedford.
We have curated a series of lists of places to go to if you have the time before or after your appointment with us, and the first is related to the wonderful selection of food.
As foodies ourselves, we would hate for you to leave our town with empty stomachs, so here is our top 5 recommendations of where to eat in Bedford:
Spaghetti John’s: Bedford is blessed with the largest concentration of Italian families in the UK and as such have some incredible Italian eateries. We are rather lucky to have Spaghetti John’s just across the road from the shop; they offer amazing speciality food and a competitively priced set menu for lunch and dinner, which is great if you need to feed an army of groomsmen. Spaghetti John’s also serves a wide range of traditional gelato which is to die for from their Gelateria, and owner Gianni offers VSHC customers a discount too!
Herd: A VSHC favourite and the best burgers in town, bar none. Small, independent, supercool and just around the corner from our shop. Brilliant rosemary chips and the hottest jalopeno coleslaw in the Home Counties. They have a nice range of craft beers too and a bar out back.
The Embankment: The Embankment is a stunning gastropub sat on the bank of the River Ouse. Whether you cosy up by the fire in the winter or sit on the patio watching the rowers on the river in summer, there you won’t find a better spot in the county. The Embankment offers high quality British grub and boy do they deliver!
Gunn’s Bakery: If you are unfamiliar with the mind-blowing Bedfordshire Clanger than you MUST Google it right now. The best place to pick up this local speciality is Gunn’s Bakery just around the corner from our shop, on the High Street. Go here to grab something quickly on the move – we recommend the Lamb and Jam clanger!
The Longholme – If a riverside walk is your thing, The Longholme is a great little hidden gem of an outdoor café on the other side of the river by the Longholme boating lake. Over there they make a fabulous brunch including fluffy pancakes, and not to mention really good coffee. Best of all, in summer boat hire is available, and soon bicycle hire.
