+ What sizes do you stock?

We stock jackets and waistcoats in sizes 34″ to 52″ chest, in Short, Regular and Long lengths, and trousers in 28″ to 44″ waist, in lengths of 28″, 30″, 32″ and 34″. If more detailed measurements of our suits are required, please drop us an email and we can send them over.


We also have our Own Your Own Alterations service at Bedford to give you the optimum fit. See the Own Your Own page for more details.

+ What items do you hire?

Our suit hire is for a 3-piece as standard, which comprises the jacket, waistcoat and trousers. We do not include accessories, shoes or shirts, these can be purchased separately.

+ What happens if I damage the suit?

For suit hire, we expect you to care for our suits and return them to us in the same great condition as we sent them out, but appreciate mistakes can happen.


With this in mind we take a £100 damage deposit for every suit hired prior to the rental period and is refunded upon safe return of the suits.


We inspect all suits on return, and if any damage is identified, we will let you know, do our best to fix it, and take the minimum necessary costto rectify the damage from the damage deposit paid.

+ Do you offer childrens suits?

No we don't. For children we do offer made to measure waistcoats at £60 each, including alterations and these are made on a three month lead time, with measurements taken at our Bedford store. Please note we will only make alterations to garments when we have taken the original measurements.

+ How do I secure my booking?

To ensure we can accommodate your hire booking, we take a 25% deposit over the number of hire suits being booked. The full remaining balance and damage deposit is due 2 weeks prior to the hire start date.
Suits to purchase, accessories and alterations are paid for in full upon ordering.

+ How is payment taken?

In store we accept card payments and cash. For payment online, we use stripe.com and give you two options, you can either:

  • Pay in full up front and pay the damage deposit 2 weeks before the event;

  • Pay a 25% deposit to secure your hire booking, then the full remaining balance and damage deposit 2 weeks prior to delivery.

Own Your Own, alterations and accessories are paid for in full on purchase.


The damage deposit is refunded within 10 days after the suit has arrived back at Vintage Suit Hire Company, with any deductions taken if there is damage identified.

+ How far in advance do I need to book?

For hire suits, we require confirmation of sizes no later than 2 months in advance of your event. If you need suits quicker, please give us a call on 01234 910620 or email and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
We do fill our hire booking books and stop taking orders several months ahead during peak season, so if you’d like to use us for your hire booking, please get in touch to get the ball rolling well in advance of your big day to prevent disappointment.

+ How does the suit get to me?

We use our chosen reliable courier and box the suits up carefully so they reach you in perfect condition for your important event. The suit/s will be sent to you within 3 days of your booked event date. See our Terms and Conditions to see the days we ship on for particular dates.

Whether you are hiring 1 or 10 suits, we charge a flat rate of £40 fully insured postage and packaging which includes them being collected after your event. You'll need to keep hold of the box they were delivered in to box them back up for returning them.

If you are opting to purchase your suit, we charge £10 for insured delivery and will send you the suit as soon as it is ready.

If you are local to Bedford you are free to collect your suits to save a bit of money and for extra piece of mind.

+ Does the suit arrive ready to wear?

Yes! Our suits are steamed to perfection, on a hanger and supplied with a signature Vintage Suit Hire suit carrier.

+ How do I return the suit/s?

We will arrange for our courier to pick the suits up from you in a designated time window within 2 days of your booked event date. All you need to do is box up the suits in the same way they arrived.

This collection is included within the £40 postage cost for hired suits.

+ Where are you based?

Our business operations are based in Bedford, and our flagship store is at 24 Castle Lane, Bedford, MK40 3US. The store has an appointment lounge (which is available on a pre-booked basis only) and a retail space with our sister company Boyds of Bedford where you can view the suits during our opening hours, then book in for a consulation or fitting.

We have three concession at the following locations, all open by appointment only:

  • Plymouth at The Wedding Hub: 63 Hyde Park Rd, Plymouth PL3 4JN. Email hello@thewedhub.com for appointment enquiries.

  • Blackburn – Legend Bridal Designs : First Floor, The Old Bank, Town Hall Street, Great Harwood, Blackburn, BB6 7DD. Call 01254 889812 for appointment enquries.

+ Where can I park?

  • Bedford: We're in the town centre so there is no parking directly outside the shop, but there is a small amount of Pay and Display parking along Castle Lane, there is also a nearby multi-storey on Lurke Street, less than a 5 minute walk away which has 2 hours of free parking on Saturdays. Closer still, there is a pay and display car park at The Swan Hotel; to get to the shop you walk between Quay and Baja restaurants, and turn left. We are a few short steps away. On Sundays all council-owned parking is free.
  • The Wedding Hub, Plymouth: There is a limited number of on-road spaces directly outside the shop which are free for 1 hour. Otherwise, there is a small pay and display car park on Ford Park Lane.
  • Blackburn : There is a free car park on James Street, less than a 5 minute walk away from the shop.
